The Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (MACCIA) was set up in 1927 by great visionary Seth Walchand Hirachand. Right from inception, the Chamber's emphasis was on industry and commerce, though Chamber was always connected to agro Industries like sugar, dal mills, rava & atta, various types of spices etc. and other agro industries.
In the year 2004, Maharashtra Chamber took a lead in organizing SAARC RICE EXPO 2004 in collaboration with Rice Exporters' Association of Pakistan (REAP) December 2004 at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai, to mark the year 2004 as the International Year of Rice, as declared by the United Nations' General Assembly and supported by its agency, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) at Rome, Italy.
